I've made essentially publishable grade ebooks using this method by spending a couple of hours on a particular book I wanted, but you don't have to, just doing the bare minimum takes around 10 minutes and gives you way way better results than conversion methods. The best part about it is that if you really want to you can spend say an extra 30 minutes cleaning it up in Jutoh/Vellum to look better like adding a functioning contents page etc. This will at least give you a readable ebook version, rather than a mishmash of random pdf elements left over from conversion methods.
